Metal fabrication is the process of producing precise shapes (often laser cut) from sheet metal including aluminum, steel and stainless steel. These flat shapes are then formed and often welded together to build more complex parts, components, weldments, assemblies or fully-finished products.

A contract manufacturer and a job shop are similar, and many people use the terms interchangeably. A job shop typically does a lot more one off / low volume work, where a contract manufacturer typically does more ongoing production type of work.

The volumes that we typically deal in range from around a thousand per year of the same part up to around 30,000 units per year of the same part.

We do everything we can to help our customers bring their products to market. So, on parts or assemblies that have future production demand, we work with them from the initial test build, through the required PPAP run and on to full production. As a general rule, though, we don’t do stand-alone prototyping. We’ve found that non-production-oriented shops do a better job with that type of low volume work. We fabricate components typically about the size of a large bookcase to as small as a coin.

Yes and no. We offer Product design & feasibility assistance, Forming simulation to ensure manufacturability, Nesting software to optimize material usage and Costing guidance. We don’t, however, offer full product design.

Providing complete project information is the best way to get a rapid quote turnaround and the best pricing. Here’s what you’ll need to send in:

• PDF Drawings (With notes/tolerances)
• 3D CAD files (SolidWorks or STP format)
• Quantities (Per Release and Estimated Annual Usage (EAU))
• Finish Requirements (Plating or Powder-coating specifications)
• Weld Specifications (Including any required certifications)
• Packaging Requirements (like bulk packing, individually boxed etc.)

Metal fabrication is often more cost-effective for producing parts compared to stamping due to the fact that there are no tooling costs. Typically, we operate just under the quantities that it makes sense to have your product stamped. For volumes 30,000 units per year or less, we are probably the best bet to have them produced. If the volumes are 30,000 units per year or more, then stamping is probably your best option.

We fabricate components and assemblies from carbon steel, aluminum and stainless, including most varieties within those three groups of metals. We also work with copper and brass. If you have a special material application, contact us to see if we can help.

Factors that affect the length of a production launch include, raw material availability, special tooling or fixturing requirements, the complexity of the fabrication, and our current production workload. No, we do not have our own product, and that’s really good for you as a customer! When a company that offers contract manufacturing services has their own product, often times the product takes precedence and the outside customers parts get moved to the back of the line.
